Links from the Great Chain which streched across the Hudson River below West Point to prevent British Man of War from controlling the Hudson River during the Revolutionary War. Used from 1778 to 1782, the 500-yard chain floated on logs extending over to Constitution Island. The location of the spot where the Chain was secured on the West Point side of the River is along Flirtation Walk, an area open only to Cadets and their Dates. This was the second of two chains to be placed across the Hudson. The first was placed four miles below West Point between Fort Montgomery and Anthony’s Nose, near the location of the present-day Bear Mountain Bridge. The Hudson can be seen streching Northward

My daughter-in-laws 8th Great Grandfather, Andrew Babcock, was an employee with Noble Forge prior to and during the Revolutionary War and helped to build the chain bridge. He was honored by the DAR for his service. I will add these pictures to his ancestry file. Thank you.

Does anybody have any information about 4 boys whose last names were Lott having helped drag the chain across the Hudson having a bounty put on their heads by the British . I have a copy of several newspaper clipping telling about it but I have found nothing proving it .if somebody can help me I could gladly use the help either proving right or wrong .
