1960 Army 9 - Syracuse 6

The Army Syracuse Game was on of the finest games of the 4 years for the Class of 62. In the 4th quarter, Syracuse trying to come from behind would attempt 3 passes, then hand off to Ernie Davis who would pickup 10 or 11 yards before Army closed on him. As Syracuse drove closer to the Goal, Army stopped the drive. It was a night on the town in New York City after that game.

One of our Fullbacks is going to Bust Somebody - Al Rushatz ran this play several times with success. There is a clear image in my mind of Al, right in front of the Corps, getting tripped up at the line of scrimmage, dropping his free hand as he is nearly horizontal, regaining his balance and rumbling for more yardage. "Dick Eckert" #10 is the Quarterback standing to the right.


"Gerry Clements" is numbber 72 while Al Rushatz 31 is in the center just to the left of 29.


It looks like "Glen Adams" -16 was holding while Tom Blanda 18 kicked. The tip of the ball is on the white just to the right of ale on the sign. 55 probably "Phil Brumbach", while 64's helmet (Al Vanderbush) is on far left of pile. ?2 is between 63 and 82>


John Ellerson '63 Captain of the '62 Team makes the tackle, 64 or 54 Al Vanderbush or George Joulwan is above and behind John, 8? is behind 17 and 3? is behind and below 88. Standing behind the line and above John's foot is 7?


20 is "Jim Connors" and either "Paul Zmiuda" 85 or Bill Heim 89 is next and 77 is "Bob McCarthy"


It appears as though 85 ? Paul Zmuida might be pushing 57 to the ground>


21 is "Roger Zailakas" 26 might be "Bill Clark" while "Jim Connors" is on the far right.


George Kirschenbauer 45 puts him on the ground as Glen Blumhardt number 27 looks to make sure. 55 is probably "Phil Brumbach"


The Corps is ready to lift their Team on their shoulders after that Game!!!! The Helmets of 72 and 76 - "Gerry Clements" and Dale Kuhns can be seen in the crowd.


The single number that can be seen behind 17 is a 6, but there is no player in the team picture who fits number and size. 72 - "Gerry Clements" and 76 - Dale Kuhns are on the ground.

John Ellerson is 87, and it is either 65 Harry Miller or Paul Zmuida 85, then 16 "Glen Adams" or 18 Tom Blanda just below 29.



"George Kirschenbaur" 45 is on the 30 Yard-line, Al Rushatz 31 is moving toward the play from 40. The ball is on the finger tips of the Syracuse receiver at the 35, but can not tell who is making the tackle. 76 Dale Kuhns, 77 "Bob McCarthy" and 54 George Joulwan are at the line of scrimmage.


The kick is directly below the e in Ballantine

31 Al Rushatz has the ball coming right up the middle - the two Syracuse are going in low.


31 Al Rushatz is down just below 80 Bob Fuellhart on the right end of the line.

27 Glen Blumhardt is on the ground on the left along with his man who is also on the ground watching the play. 10 "Dick Eckert" is standing over on the right


It is probably "Paul Zmunida" 85 in the center. The ball is just above the 10 yard marker.


21 "Roger Zailskas" is the only one identified. The Syracuse Ball carrier is down.


It appears that Army is going to catch the ball


The ball is in 21 "Roger Zailskas"' hands, while 54 George Joulwan, AAl Vanderbush, and Al Rushatz are moving to that side of the field. 7? is behind 63.



The ball is coming straight to Paul Zmuida from number 10 "Dick Eckert". 20 "Jim Connors" is on the left.


"Roger Zailskas" has pulled the coverage off Al Rushatz whose arms are out streached waiting for the ball.
